Tagging Tips
After you have gone through all your items with a fine tooth comb and pulled out everything with stains, tears, missing buttons, or items that are just too worn, here is the easiest and most efficient way we have found to tag your items.
Sort them by gender (boy/girl) then by size. This might take up the whole living room, but not for long. Put your clothes on hangers facing to the LEFT (see picture below).
Put them all in a pile by your computer. Enter one item, then flip it over (face down) to another pile. Keep entering and flipping. When you are done, you should have one pile of clothes all face down. Flip the whole pile over. Print and cut your tags. Your first item should be the top item.
You might find it easier to tag if you only do a certain amount at one time. For instance, enter, print and tag 24 items at a time. It might prevent a lot of mistagging.
While you are pinning the tags on the items, take this opportunity to look over your items one more time for wear, tear and stains. Remember that this is a Consignment Sale, not a Garage Sale. Also, you need to be sure you are putting the correct tag with the correct item.
Safety pin the tag to the left shoulder of the item (see picture below). Please use large silver safety pins only. Pants should be safety pinned to the hangers. Hangers will not be returned.
Tape tags securely to non-clothing items. But please do not cover the price with tape as this makes the half-price sale difficult. Also keep in mind that we have to remove the tag from the item so we can credit it to your account. If you use strapping tape to secure the tag to the item, we have to work overtime to get the tag off.
Shoes need to be attached together.
You may group small items together in a zip lock bag (as long as they are not Happy Meal Toys) to be sold together for one price. You can put the tag on the inside of the baggie or tape it to the baggie using a piece of tape at the top and the bottom, being carfeul not to over tape or tape over the price.
When tagging any non-clothing items, please make sure that all accessories are securely attached to the item.
Remember - increments of 50 cents.
Also you must print tags on card stock paper. Regular copy paper is unacceptible for tags. Each 8 1/2 by 11 sheet will print 12 tags.
Presentation Hints: The cleaner it is, the better it sells. Wash the clothes, clean the toys, iron the ruffles. If it comes with a hat or socks, then safety pin it to the garment. If you have the box and the original instructions, that also helps. If it was brand-new and never used, put a small note on the item telling so. Remember to button, zip, fasten and tie!
And please make sure your clothes smell clean. We will reject any items that have the 'parfum de cigarette' smell.
Just remember the Big Rule of Thumb. Hold the item up and ask yourself honestly, "Would I buy this? Would I pay $X.XX for this?" You put in a lot of work tagging your items. If you don't think it will sell, then don't waste your time and effort on it.
